I’m obsessed with “The Bachelor.” There, I said it. While some of the women who end up crying in the limo are crazy (Tierra anyone?), many are beautiful and accomplished. Last Monday night, Sean Lowe sent AshLee home and I can’t tell you how many of my guy friends were tweeting about what an idiot he was to let her go.
Having had my heart broken numerous times, it actually brings me comfort to know that some of the hottest, most talented, women I’ve ever seen have also been dumped. I was involved with a guy named Charlie, who happened to be one of the most beautiful men I’ve ever dated and I was infatuated. His ideal girl was Jessica Simpson. She was the screensaver on his computer and he constantly talked about how perfect she was. This would give any girl a complex (especially a flat chested brunette like me).
Well even Jessica Simpson, the girl who my crush considered God’s gift to mankind, has been dumped. When she was dating Adam Levine, he pulled a disappearing act. She wanted answers and he texted her that he was busy and needed space. She later moved on to football player Tony Romo, who dumped her just before her birthday.
Remember when Chace Crawford dumped Carrie Underwood via text message? We all know Taylor Swift has been dumped. We have all of her albums to prove it. Halle Berry has been cheated on. Who would cheat on Halle Berry you ask? Her ex husband, Eric Benet, that’s who. In a recent interview, the sexiest man alive, Channing Tatum, admitted he’s been dumped more times than he can even count. Those girls must be kicking themselves right about now. If not, I will happily seek them out and kick them myself.
Whether you knew the relationship was ending or you were blindsided, being dumped absolutely sucks. It sucks more if you’re blindsided, but endings are always hard. It’s scary to start over. It’s devastating to trust someone with your heart and have them be so careless with it. There’s not much that’s worse than investing time, effort and emotion into someone and feeling like it was all for nothing. It’s sad when there is someone you thought would be in your life for a long time and the universe has other plans.
The point I’m trying to make is that EVERYONE has been dumped. If you are nursing a broken heart, you are in good company. Also, I firmly believe you haven’t lived until you’ve cried your eyes out while listening to Adele and stuffing your face with cookie dough. If you haven’t had your heart broken, how will you ever be able to relate to all of the books, movies, quotes and songs about lost love? If you haven’t had your heart broken, you haven’t lived. So take something from every relationship, embrace the lessons learned, and know that each experience will help you realize what you want and don’t want from your next relationship. All the guys who have made you cry will really make you appreciate the guy who only wants to make you smile.
Many of the rejected bachelorettes have moved on to find their soulmates, get married and have babies. (I may or may not follow them on Twitter). As for the Bachelors who reject them, well, we all know how well that usually turns out.
